Free Software from the Net
Here are some excellent free software that I use regularly, that you can find and download from the Net. Check them out!
- Web Page Editor -- Arachnophilia -- written by Paul Lutus, and distributed under what he calls the CareWare concept, which is a great concept.
- Lavasoft Ad-aware -- still indispensable to scan for and throw out all those stupid and sleazy adware, spyware and Christ-knows-what-else comes from the Net that you didn't know about.
- AVG Anti-Virus System -- hey, it's free! What else is there to say? Generally speaking, I hate using anti-virus software because it takes ages to test the files on the HDD, which nowaways are at least in the gigibytes range in terms of storage capacity. Anyway, the AVG Anti-virus System did its job -- it detected a virus on my notebook that my Norton Anti-virus software (came with my notebook's installation CD-R's) didn't detect.
- Music File Format Converter -- dbpowerAMP Music Converter -- a great and easy-to-use software (from Ilustrate -- huh?) that I usually use for converting .wav files to .mp3 files, and vice versa.
(Alternatively, you can always try out Windows' obsolete -- you've got to hunt for it in the Windows "System32" sub-directory -- but still useful Sound Recorder Accessory, where it is possible to convert a .wav file created using Windows PCM to, say, a .wav file using MPEG Layer 3 -- I usually named such .wav files as "filename_mp3.wav" while renaming the "regular" .wav file as "filename_pcm.wav" Such "filename_mp3.wav files are highly compressed compared to the "regular" .mp3 files that are produced by most audio CDs ripper software, such as Audiograbber. Such highly compressed "filename_mp3.wav" files are useful for audio background in your web pages .)
